Apple Health and Kept

What Kept reads from Apple Health, what it never writes, and how to connect or disconnect.

Kept reads from Apple Health. It never writes to it. Everything Kept learns from Health is a summary that helps you see your week; the raw measurements stay on your iPhone.

Connect

  1. Open the drawer, tap Settings, then Apple Health.
  2. Read the explanation. It names each category Kept would like to read and what it uses it for.
  3. Tap Connect Apple Health. iOS shows its own permission sheet; turn on the categories you are comfortable sharing.

Apple does not tell an app which categories were declined, so Kept describes the connection it asked for rather than claiming access to everything.

What Kept reads

CategoryUsed for
SleepLast night's card, sleep history, a habit rule on time asleep
WorkoutsBody, training plans, matching a run to a planned session
Active energyEnergy balance, a habit rule on active energy
Walking, from your workoutsA habit rule on walking minutes

Synced summaries are scoped to your Kept account and can appear on your Mac after the iPhone syncs them. The Mac never reads Health directly.

What Kept never does

  • Write to Apple Health.
  • Decide a habit with a model. A habit rule compares numbers with arithmetic. The on-device model does help match a synced workout to a habit, and with Cloud AI on, your daily burn figures shape the coaching line on Body.
  • Expose Health history to a connected AI agent without a separate, explicit permission that is not part of any one-click preset.
  • Treat a missing reading as zero.

When Health deletes something

If you delete a workout in Apple Health, the next sync removes it from Kept too. Workouts you logged by hand stay. A walking-habit check-in from that workout does not clear yet; use Undo on the habit.

Disconnect

Turn off Kept's categories in iOS Settings under Health → Data Access & Devices → Kept, or tap Disconnect in Kept's Settings → Connections → Apple Health. That screen also shows the connection's status, offers Sync now, and can Open Health app. Kept stops reading and syncing. A small checkpoint stays on the device so an explicit reconnect can resume, and it holds no measurements. Deleting your account removes everything Kept derived from Health.
