What changed in 2.0

Kept 2.0 on iPhone adds Do, a conversation that lives in Kept. Ask it about your plans, notes and tasks and it answers from what you have kept. Ask it to draft a message and it writes one for you to use.

Meet Do

Do answers from your notes, tasks, People list and the next 14 days of your Kept calendar, and it drafts text you can read in full and use. In this version Do reads your Kept calendar but does not change it, and it does not save or create tasks or notes, set reminders, send email or messages, book, spend money, place calls, browse or use connected accounts for you. Texting Do is off.

Do asks for its own Cloud AI permission. Try Do asks even if you allowed Cloud AI in setup. Not now keeps the rest of Kept working exactly as before. Turn Do off or back on anytime in Settings → Privacy → Cloud AI for Do with Turn off or Turn on. Turning Cloud AI off for Kept also turns Do off; turning it back on does not turn Do back on. Your Do conversations are saved in your account so you can pick them up later, until you delete your account. There is no way to delete a single conversation in this version. Do is turned on account by account in this version, so you may not see it yet. When it is on for yours, Kept shows its introduction once. Everything else in Kept works without it. Kept for Mac has no Do in this release.

Calendar permission says what it does

The Calendar permission now says plainly how Kept uses your events, and that you can disconnect Calendar anytime.

Kept opens from your iPhone's copyiPhone

Kept opens Today, Tasks, Notes and your last destination from the copy already on your iPhone, then checks for changes in the background. Closing Kept, an app update, or iOS stopping it does not make that copy wait for a connection. If Kept last checked more than fifteen minutes ago, a quiet Updating beside the screen title shows it is checking, and you can keep reading and working. See Sync and offline.

Subpages stay with their page

On iPhone, saved subpages stay under their parent in the Notes list while your phone is offline or reconnecting, and expanding a page keeps its subpages in that page's card. On Mac, All notes keeps subpages under their parent; expand the parent to see them. On iPhone, when you have starred notes, the notes you have not starred now sit under their own All notes heading. Pasted Markdown keeps its shape

When Markdown you paste arrives on the clipboard inside a heading, several plain structured lines become separate headings, paragraphs, lists, checklists, quotes and code blocks instead of one heading. A pasted heading keeps its heading style after you save and reopen the note. An older note that holds a whole Markdown document inside one heading now shows it in body type, so its paragraphs stay readable. This works on iPhone and Mac. See The note editor and Notes on Mac.

In 1.9.8

Kept 1.9.8 gives Today full-width cards that credit only what you completed, keeps the task and goal you meant, and lets you run Mac Settings from the keyboard.

Today keeps your three

Your Top 3 now reads as full-width cards, one per row, on iPhone and Mac. Complete one and it keeps its place, struck through, with _Kept._ at its foot. Complete all three and Today says _Top 3 kept._, with Undo and one next step; a day with one or two priorities gets no all-three line. A reason credits you only for an estimate or area you set yourself. When Today opens, it keeps your saved Top 3 while the day's plan loads. See Today and your Top 3.

Modify plan reviews the task you meant

Name a task's place, such as first, and the review stays on that exact task, even when its name holds _and_ or _then_. When two tasks share a name, you choose which one. While Kept prepares a review it says it is still working and offers Cancel, which keeps your words in the field; a review that takes too long leaves your Top 3 unchanged. On iPhone, if your day changed before you saved, Ask again sends your request again in one tap. See Change the plan.

Complete, Reopen, and Close

A task's page reads Complete (or Reopen), and Close only closes the page. On iPhone, completing a task gives one firm tap, and on iPhone and Mac VoiceOver says _Completed. Undo available._ On Mac, undoing a reopen in the inspector puts back the task's original completion date. On iPhone, a row at Minimal detail ends with the day the task is due. See Tasks.

Goals and habits keep what you meant

• At Ready, Goal Builder can use the first number of a range such as "from 190 to 175" as your starting line, and Log progress offers Use starting line.
• Add a tracker names the goal it joins and keeps that goal's title.
• When a changed target no longer matches a number in your title, Update title offers the change for you to accept.
• A Goal Coach check-in never builds a new goal, and it reads your goal in the units you saved.
• On Mac, a habit's progress button shows this week's check-in days so far. A check-in is quiet everywhere: a habit earns no _+1_.
• Trends files each goal under its own life area, or under Goals when it has none.

Notes find, export, and list your pages

• Choosing a search result opens that exact note.
• Under a page's words, the pages inside it are listed under Pages, and a page that was deleted or that you can no longer open reads Page unavailable.
• On iPhone, Daily notes is always in the library, and the count keeps pages inside pages apart from your notes.
• Export says This page only first, and Markdown and Plain text keep each picture's description.
• Connected agents, and the context Kept prepares for Ask Kept, read your notes' saved words, including table cells and picture descriptions.

Calendar and Capture

• A compact Connect calendars row replaces the connection card, and a day you pick opens at its first timed item.
• Dragging an event keeps its minutes past the hour, and moving its start in the edit form keeps its length.
• Capture names what it will save beside Save, and Keep words puts your full first line back as the title.

Settings, setup, and the Mac keyboardMac

• Appearance says what you chose: _Follows your iPhone_, _Always light_, or _Always dark_.
• Avatar artwork has a Close button, and at accessibility text sizes a Settings switch sits below its explanation.
• On Mac, Settings is one readable column, Tab reaches every control down to Sign out, the capture hotkey is a button with Reset to Option Space, and Kept → Sign Out… is in the menu bar.
• In the Mac command palette, Return opens the best match, including a note found by a word in its body.
• The Cloud AI screen names daily journal pages among what it sends.
• If you reopen Kept before answering the Cloud AI choice in setup, the choice comes back, and Not now opens Today with your first line kept once.

In 1.9.5

Kept 1.9.5 brought repeating tasks, Report a bug in the menu, Kept for iPhone on iOS 18, and updates inside the Mac app.

Note recovery in the 1.9.8 candidate

The October 19 candidate keeps recovered daily writing, rejected descriptions and note titles, and shared-note versions on this device for review. It keeps local recovery separate from delivery, retains earlier chosen writing and original typed pages, and returns an undone version choice to review after reopening. A failed daily read does not count as an empty day. Sign-out and explicit discard explain whether work needs review or can finish sending.

This update is still awaiting integrated iPhone, Mac, restart, account, and shared-delivery checks. Confirmed account-deletion cleanup now removes retained on-device drafts and their recovery metadata on iPhone and Mac. If local removal cannot be verified, Kept keeps the account fenced and retries when the app opens; uncertain deletion requests preserve retained editing drafts until their outcome is known. This section is candidate documentation, not a shipment announcement. Read Known limits.

Tables, arriving gradually

Tables keep related things together. Insert one with /table or Insert → Table, give it properties (Title, Text, Number, Select, Multi-select, Date, Checkbox, or Link), choose a Table, List, or Board view, filter, sort, and group the rows, and open any row as a page. Two devices changing different cells keep both, and when two people change the same cell, Review changes lets you choose. Older versions of Kept can read a table but not edit it. The grids you already have stay as they are until you choose Add properties and views. See Tables.

Alongside it, the editor got quieter and clearer:

• Pasting spreadsheet rows offers Turn into table beside the paste, and it goes away when you keep working.
• A table's Header row and Header column switches show whether they are on, Undo and Redo work while you edit a cell, and a button that cannot act is unavailable instead of silent.
• On Mac, a note that is in sync shows no Synced label, and Add tag appears when you point at the tags row.
• Start writing steps aside once a new note has the caret.
• A page shows its path, and Pages in this page lists the pages inside it that its words do not.

Starred notes and clear sidebar pins

Star note now keeps a note in Starred at the top of Notes on iPhone and Mac, ordered by when you starred it. Swipe a note on iPhone, or press ⌘D on Mac. Pin to sidebar is the separate choice for putting a note in the main navigation, one click from anywhere. Existing Notes-list pins become stars, while existing main-sidebar pins stay there.

Tasks can repeat

A task can now repeat every day, every weekday, every week on the days you choose, every 2 weeks, every month, or every year. On iPhone, open the task and choose Repeat; on Mac, choose Repeat in the task's inspector or under its When tool. A repeating task shows a small repeat mark beside its date in your lists. Completing one keeps it done and brings the next one in on its next date, and Undo takes the next one back. Capture starts a repeat only when your words say so, as in "every Thursday let me take the bins out" or "water the plants every morning", so everything else you capture files exactly as before. See Repeat.

Report a bug from the menu

Report a bug now sits at the bottom of the menu on iPhone and in the Mac sidebar, so you can tell us what went wrong from any screen. It opens the same report as a shake, with the screen you were on attached; you can remove the picture before you send.

Kept on more iPhones

Kept for iPhone now runs on iOS 18 and later. Some things use features only iOS 26 has: on iOS 18, Capture asks you to choose Event, Task or Note unless Cloud AI is on, and a few Siri and Shortcuts answers are not offered. Kept for Mac still needs macOS 26.

Updates inside Kept on MacMac

If you downloaded Kept for Mac from kept.do, Kept now tells you when a new version is ready: a small card at the bottom of the sidebar shows Install, and the × hides it until the next version. You can also choose Kept > Check for Updates…. Kept from the Mac App Store keeps updating through the App Store. See Updates.

Smoother everyday use

• Your Top 3 stays on Today while you add tasks, until a fresher plan is saved.
• Tapping beside the end of a line in a note puts the cursor at the end of that line, and the block menu and slash menu no longer cover the words you are working on.
• Notes Quick Find shows results right under its filters, and snippets no longer repeat a note's title.
• Capture no longer offers an unsent draft you already saved, and its confirmation always says where your item went.
• Calendar opens a day you pick at its first event, and the floating + no longer covers the ends of rows.
• Top 3 cards keep their due line inside the card and never break a word across lines.

In 1.9.3

Kept 1.9.3 put every change to your Top 3 in one place and brought your notes and goals closer to hand.

Top 3 cards fit more of your words

On iPhone and Mac, a Top 3 card gives its title several lines, enough for a typical six- to nine-word task. A title that still runs long ends with "…" on the card, and opening the card shows the whole title.

Modify plan, one place for your three

The icon beside Top 3 Priorities is now Modify plan, on iPhone and Mac, and it replaces the separate Close plan control. It lists each priority with its full title.

• Not today holds a priority until another day. Its receipt and Undo stay in the sheet until you close it.
• Ask for a new Top 3 takes what changed in your own words and shows Kept's proposal for you to review. Nothing changes until you choose Save Top 3.
• Close today's plan moves what is left to tomorrow or lets it go, takes a note about the day, and keeps the day's record. Reopen brings the cards back for the rest of the day.

Asking for a new Top 3 needs Cloud AI and a connection; Not today and closing work without them. See Change the plan.

Quick Find in Notes on iPhoneiPhone

Pull down past the top of Notes to open Quick Find with the keyboard ready. It searches the titles and words of your notes without asking Kept, and Starred, Daily notes, and Open tasks narrow the results. Choosing a result grows that note open from its row. On Mac, Search notes in the Notes sidebar still searches your whole library as you type.

Add goal from your goals

Add goal now sits in your goals preview, at the end of your goals on the iPhone Profile and in the Mac Goals navigator, and opens Goal Builder. With no goals yet, it comes first. Close the builder partway and the toast says _Draft saved. Choose Add goal to continue._

Also in 1.9.3

• Once you have captured a todo of your own, the Capture one todo starter leaves Quick wins for good, on every device.
• A task you set to Not today stays out of Quick wins until its day.
• When notifications are off, a reminder still saves and its chip shows a slashed bell, with Open Settings to turn notifications on.
• On iPhone, Today's toasts, including the Open receipt after a capture, appear beside the + button, clear of Modify plan.
• When Ask Kept looks something up before it answers, the short phase label is the only sign of it, and the reply starts with the answer.
• In your Personal space, choosing Publish at _Publish from your Personal space?_ puts the note on the web and copies its link.

In 1.9.2

Kept 1.9.2 gave Today and Tasks one clear reading order, from the day to the work inside it.

Today is made of cards

Your Top 3 now leads Today as three cards on iPhone and Mac. Each card shows a short action title and the reasons it leads. Open one for its suggested time, Earlier, Later, Add to calendar, steps, comments, and the task behind it. Quick wins and Habits use the same to-do row, and the daily note continues underneath.

Close plan records each priority as Done, Tomorrow, or Let go. Reopen brings the cards back for the rest of the day. Kept 1.9.3 moves closing into Modify plan.

Tasks reads from row to page

Tasks is a quiet, Things-style list. On iPhone, search and ⋯ share the top row. Filters and a finished search become removable chips, and Done today keeps completed work in reach. Tap a row to open its card in place, then open the card as the task's full page.

On Mac, a row opens into a card in place. Open the card to use the inspector as the task's page. The list, card, and page keep the title and completion box aligned as you move through them.

In 1.9.1

Kept 1.9.1 kept your words, told the truth on Today, and left you where you were when you captured.

Your words stay yours

Close a task on iPhone and your last words go with it. The corner always reads Close, clearing a description offers Undo, and if the save cannot go through the page stays open with Your changes aren't saved yet. and Try again. On Mac, moving into Add a comment never empties the task's description.

Today's note holds only what you write: opening it, typing or Undo never adds your Top 3, Quick wins or Habits to it. The line you are writing stays above the keyboard. A to-do in a note becomes one task once you finish the line, and its Undo reads Remove from Tasks. On Mac, typing fast into a new day's note keeps every character, on Today and on the Notes daily page.

Capture saves exactly what it showed you, and picking Task, Event or Note keeps every word you typed. A recovered Capture draft survives your typing, and Discard on iPhone or Clear on Mac has Undo. Change Top 3, Add habit and What Kept should know keep what you typed until you send or save it.

Today tells the truth

Today fills its Top 3 without a visit to Tasks, and when a refresh fails it says Couldn't refresh your Top 3 with Retry and keeps your picks readable. Once you act on your three, by finishing one, choosing Not today or using Change, they stay put: a new capture joins the list below, and only your own act moves a seat. Undo and a task coming back the same day return your pick.

The 1.9.1 priority page matched its slip, and its Done became Keep. Kept 1.9.2 replaces that surface with the card's completion box and Mark the priority done after every step is finished. A kept task never reads Overdue, and Not today keeps the due date showing. On iPhone, a late open task's detail says Overdue beside its date, not with color alone. Today leads with your own day; the Cloud AI offer stays at the end.

Capture stays where you are

Save from Capture on iPhone and you stay on the screen you were on. The receipt says where it went, as in Added to Tasks · Buy printer paper, and Open takes you to that item. An event's receipt names its day at every text size. The main button holds still while Kept reads your line and names the kind once you pick one.

On Mac, the keyboard follows youMac

⌘K takes the keyboard from wherever you were, even with the task inspector open, and Escape puts you back on the exact row or place in your text. Capture takes the keyboard as it opens: ⌥1, ⌥2 and ⌥3 pick the kind without typing a symbol, and Escape hands the keyboard back. In the palette, Return asks Kept when your text ends in a question mark, opens an item whose title you typed exactly, and otherwise opens Capture; the selected row says which. Kept no longer opens its windows as tabs.

Easier to read and reach

On iPhone at accessibility text sizes, rows put their value under the title instead of breaking words, first run and sign-in keep every field and button reachable, and the Focus launch opens at full height. With Reduce Motion on, the iPhone menu fades in place instead of sliding. Prompts, search fields and the drawer's selection read at contrast, and small controls take a full 44 pt tap. VoiceOver names a task's circle Complete or Reopen. Ink is the default highlight, so a selected row no longer looks like a finished one. In dark mode every switch shows its track, in sheets and in Mac Settings too.

Also new

• On iPhone, clearing a search ends it and never eats your next tap.
• Calendar draws a task with a time as a marker at that time in Day, 3 Day and Week, on iPhone and Mac. A task with only a date sits under Due this day.
• On iPhone, a note's table keeps a word or an amount whole at large text sizes, and the editor's formatting bar has its own background, so nothing behind it shows through.
• iPhone widgets: Habits with nothing due says No habits today, Agenda counts each kind, and tapping Focus on Today small starts that focus.
• With no line of your own, Settings, the drawer, Focus and widgets invite you to add one instead of quoting a house sentence as yours.
• Asking Kept a question never changes anything. A quick command shows every field and waits for you to add it.

In 1.9.0

On iPhone, Kept saves a grey inline prediction only when you accept it. Deleting a selected word, Cut, or Delete in the Edit menu keeps the saved note equal to the screen, and the space beside a deleted word stays until you delete it too. Import from Notion is in the app and turned off for now; Settings shows it once it is available.

What 1.8 brought

Setup in 1.8.8

Setup on iPhone is one room now. The brand, the progress bar and the buttons stay put while each step fades in, and your plan lands straight on Today, with no Ready screen and no reminders step. The Cloud AI screen names only what it does today, and its second ask, Keep Cloud AI off?, is asked once. Mac runs the same Focus, Cloud AI, Goal and Plan sequence. An empty Today no longer puts the caret in the daily note when Today opens; the daily note space shows its sentence until you tap or click in, on both.

Capture that finishes the thought

Bring a thought into Capture and turn it into a task or a note in the same motion. Type "Dentist Thursday 3pm" and the event lands on Thursday at three; a date with no time becomes an all-day event and the sheet says so. Type "two eggs and toast" and Kept looks each food up in a nutrition reference.

Deadlines with a clock

A task's due day can now carry a time. Tap Add time in Capture, in the task on iPhone, or in the inspector on Mac, and the deadline shows beside the day wherever the task is listed. Planning still runs on the day; the clock is the promise. A due time is not a reminder, so it never asks to notify you.

Kept for Mac, downloadedMac

Kept for Mac now comes straight from kept.do as one universal download for Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 26 or later. The Mac is at 1.8.1. Sign in with Google or an email code there; Sign in with Apple stays on iPhone and the Mac App Store build.

Goals you can point at

Link tasks and habits to a goal, see what comes next, and choose what counts as progress. Suggestions stay separate until you link them, so a goal only ever holds work you chose to put there.

Notes that keep up

Every letter lands, no matter how fast you type, and if a shared edit cannot be placed Kept keeps a private copy of your words. Press / on any line for a heading, a to-do, a quote, a list, a table, an image, or a callout. Find the notes you recently opened. If a shared edit cannot be applied, Kept keeps a private copy of your words before it reloads the shared note.

Reminders you choose

Pick which briefings you want and when the morning one arrives. Apple Health habit check-ins are paused with Body in Kept 1.8.6, so no Health setup or explanation is shown in a habit.

MacMac

Kept 1.8 let you resize Today's separate note card. Kept 1.9.2 replaces that card with one page whose writing grows with the note. Other 1.8 additions remain: preview a note before linking it to a task, reorder task steps by dragging, choose which properties the inspector shows, browse editor commands with the keyboard, and dismiss an event by clicking outside it. One sidebar button lives beside the title on every surface; ⌃⌘S shows or hides the sidebar from the keyboard too.

Getting around

Tap your avatar to open the drawer; tap the title for the same drawer, or in Notes for the lens menu. Find your notes the way you think: one title, one menu, pick All notes, a folder, or a tag. Pin what you keep coming back to.

Widgets

The Today widget leads with the day: the small size shows what is next, and the medium and large sizes add your date, your three, and your habits. The Tasks widget can show your Top 3.

Arriving gradually

Some of 1.8 is switched on account by account while we watch it: the Record, suggested tags when a capture becomes a note, the skills library, the habit builder, and multi-item capture. The guide marks each one.
