Known limits

These are the edges we already know about in Kept 1.9. If you hit something not on this list, that is a bug report worth sending.

Note recovery in the 1.9.8 candidate

As of October 19, 2026, the assembled recovery update is a candidate awaiting full iPhone and Mac verification, including restart, account changes, and delivery to another device or person. The recovery descriptions in this guide explain the candidate's implemented behavior; they are not a release or delivery confirmation.

• A local recovery receipt means the captured revision is kept on this device. It does not confirm server or peer delivery. The ordinary Synced label still relies on queue and hand-off facts rather than an independent exact-version server check.
• Recovered writing can include earlier chosen rich-text versions and original typed pages. Undo of a recovery choice returns it to review, including after reopening. Loading the latest version does not discard unresolved drafts. Review remains local; this is not a server history of every collaborator's earlier writing.
• Keep a copy, where offered, still needs a connection to create a private note. Copy retained words before resolving them if you need them elsewhere.
• Ordinary sign-out preserves account-scoped retained writing. Explicit discard can finish one journal before another fails; it leaves you signed in on failure, but cannot restore work already discarded.
• Confirmed account-deletion cleanup removes retained drafts and their recovery metadata from the device on iPhone and Mac. If local removal cannot be verified, Kept keeps the account fenced and retries cleanup when the app opens. An uncertain deletion request preserves retained editing drafts until its outcome is known. Content-free deletion-safety markers can remain to prevent removed drafts from being recreated. The remaining integrated recovery acceptance checks are still required before release; they are not deferred to 1.9.9.

Today and your Top 3

• With Cloud AI on, after you act on your Top 3 (finish one, choose Not today, or change them), an edit such as a new capture can bring a cloud refresh that reseats your three a few seconds later. With Cloud AI off, your picks stay put. The server half of this fix comes in a later update.
• With Cloud AI off, your iPhone and your Mac each build their own Top 3, so on the same day they can show different threes. A pick you finish or move with Not today counts on both.

Capture

• Several thoughts in one line file as one item unless multi-item capture has reached your account, Cloud AI is on, and you are online. Split by hand if it happens.
• Mac Capture offers Event, Task, and Note. Log meals on the Body page.
• A line that rules out a day, such as "not Monday" or "I can't do Monday. Friday works", can still save with a day you did not mean, sometimes today. Check the day named beside Save before you save, and change Due if it is wrong. If it has already saved, choose Open on the receipt and change the day there.
• On iPhone, Save can shift while Kept reads your line, and on a first capture the field moves up when the examples leave as you start typing. Let the line beside Save settle before you tap it.

Calendar

• Repeating events can be created only on a writable Google calendar. Editing an existing series, or one occurrence of it, is not in this build.
• Apple Calendar events edit in place; a guest list on an Apple event changes only in Apple Calendar.

Goals

• A reading you log stays in the goal's Log once its Undo toast is gone, and Edit goal has no field for a starting value. If a reading is wrong, log the right one. Goal Coach cannot remove or set either for you; it talks the goal through and changes nothing.

Habits and Health

• Deleting a walk in Apple Health does not clear that day's walking check-in yet. Use Undo on the habit.
• A calorie deficit is not a Health measurement and cannot drive a habit rule.
• The Mac does not read Apple Health. Sleep and Health workouts arrive from your iPhone.

Notes

• Pictures in a shared note currently show for the owner only.
• Once a note has been shared, it keeps reading Shared after its last invitation is cancelled or its last person leaves, and connected agents still cannot edit it.
• A note Ask Kept writes can show the asterisks of bold text and the brackets of a link as plain characters, and an indented list item can fall out of its list. Edit the note to tidy it.
• Rarely, a delayed sync can put an earlier version of a note's words back over newer words you typed on this device.
• Invitation email may not arrive. If the Share sheet offers an invite link, copy it and send it only to the intended person; anyone who opens it can join.
• Comments on published links show on the link's web page, not in Kept yet.

• Suggested tags on the capture sheet are arriving gradually. Notes keep their tag control either way.
• A note's automatic tags come only from your own words. Kept does not tag from other notes or your areas, so some notes stay untagged until you tag them.
• On iPhone, deleting a selected word leaves the space beside it. Press delete once more to remove the space.
• Shared notes do not keep a server history of every earlier version. Recovery keeps the versions this device retained for review; it cannot recover an earlier remote paragraph it never held. Keep a copy, where offered, files a retained snapshot as a private note titled Unplaced edits. See Review earlier writing.

Tables

• A table holds up to 1,000 rows, 12 properties, and 8 saved views, and the whole note that holds it must stay within 1 MiB. Kept refuses a change that would pass a limit before saving anything and keeps what you typed. The full list is in Limits.
• Tables have no formulas, relations, rollups, People or Files properties, Gallery or Calendar views, or times of day on dates, and you cannot save your own templates. A table cannot sit in a daily note, which keeps the plain grid.
• A Notion table does not import as a Kept table: its rows arrive as notes. Kept does not import CSV files into tables (Bring your Notion into Kept).
• Dragging rows to reorder them is off while a view is sorted. Clear sorts to reorder rows.
• Changing a property's type is refused when a saved view's filter or grouping would no longer make sense. Kept shows the reason and leaves the property alone. Edit that view first.
• Changing Text to Link is refused when the text you see and the link's destination differ. Kept says the change would lose a destination and leaves the property alone.
• Undo after deleting a row brings the whole row back, including details Kept does not display yet.
• Undo of a batch of edits restores them all, unless someone else changed the same thing since. Then Kept leaves it as it is.
• In a shared table, only its owner can write the first words of a row's page. Existing pages follow their own sharing.
• An older version of Kept reads a table with properties as text and cannot edit it. Update Kept to edit it.

The Record

• Arriving gradually across accounts. Every completion is already counted for the day it reaches you.
• The return notice for coming back after a gap is parked in this build.

Ask Kept

• Cloud answers need Calendar, Notes, Tasks, Habits, and Body all on. With Body chosen off at setup, Ask Kept answers from what is on the device and says so.
• The Mac panel cannot attach photos or copy a reply.

AI agents

• Agents create single events; repeating series are made in the app.
• Agents cannot set up Apple Health rules at all, and read Health history only with the separate health:read permission.
• Kept documentation search inside an agent is switched on account by account.

Mac windowsMac

• Windows you used as tabs in an earlier version open stacked in the same place after this update. Drag one aside to see the others. Kept no longer makes tabs.

Sign-in

• An email code signs you in to an account that already exists. New accounts start with Apple or Google.
• The Mac app downloaded from kept.do cannot use Apple's built-in sign-in. Its Continue with Apple goes through Apple's sign-in page and appears once Kept turns that on; until then, use Google or an email code there. The Mac App Store build has all three.

Platforms

• iPhone and Mac are the apps. No iPad layout and no Android. The older web app at kept.do/web still signs in but is not where new work lands.
