Power user tips
Twelve habits of people who get the most out of Kept, gathered from the first months of the beta.
Not features. Habits. These are the ways the people who love Kept actually use it.
1. Capture before you decide
The moment you start thinking about where a thought belongs, you have lost the thought. Type it, add it, move on. Kept's guess is right most of the time and takes one tap to fix when it is not.
2. Say the date, skip the rest
"Call the school Thursday" is a complete capture. Kept does the calendar arithmetic. You do not have to type "next" or the month.
3. Let Top 3 be honest
If a task is not leading your day, it is because nothing on it says it should. Rather than fight the card, give the task a due date, a goal, a critical priority, or a why. The card is a mirror.
4. Two Not todays and it is gone for a week
A task you keep swiping away is telling you something. Swipe Not today on iPhone, or choose it from the row's menu on Mac, twice within a week and Kept holds it for seven days; Show in Top 3 on the task brings it back. Use the quiet to decide whether it deserves a date or a delete.
5. Write the day in one place
The daily note is the one note you do not have to name or file. Meeting scraps, a sentence for later, a /task for the thing you just promised someone. On Mac it is already open on Today.
6. /task inside a note
A checkbox in a note is a real task. Write your meeting notes as you always do, and every /task Send Dana the draft becomes a task in Tasks, linked back to the note that explains it.
7. Pin the three things you open every day
On Mac, right-click a folder, a tag, or a note and Pin to Sidebar; a task pins from its inspector menu. On iPhone, Pin to Menu lives in the menu of a note, a folder, or a tag. Your daily surfaces stop being three taps away.
8. Let Health check the habit in
Sleep seven hours. Walk twenty minutes. Those are measured already. Give the habit an Apple Health rule and stop checking boxes for things your phone can see.
9. Link work to a goal on purpose
Kept refuses to guess that a Health task belongs to your Health goal. Take the ten seconds to link the work that serves the goal, and the goal's Next action becomes trustworthy.
10. Ask Kept instead of scrolling
"What did I decide about the vendor contract?" is faster than opening four notes. The assistant searches by meaning and names the notes it drew on.
11. Put Capture on the Action Button
Settings → Action Button → Controls → Capture. One press from your pocket to a line in Kept. Or give it to Back Tap in Shortcuts.
12. Connect the AI you already use
If you spend your day in Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, or Cursor, connect it to Kept. "Add a task to Kept" from the tool you are already in beats switching apps every time.
