Getting in

Do I need an invitation or an access code? No. Anyone can make a free Kept account with an email code or Sign in with Apple. If someone invited you to a note, see Someone invited me to a note below.

Where do I get the app? Kept for iPhone is on the App Store. Kept for Mac downloads from kept.do as one universal app for Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 26 or later. Open the disk image and drag Kept to Applications to install.

Can I use Kept on both my iPhone and my Mac? Yes, with the same account. Sign in on the second device and your data is there. There is no limit on devices.

Do I need to sign in with the same method on both devices? No. Apple on your phone and an email code on your Mac reach the same account if the email matches.

Is there an iPad or Android version? Not today. Kept is an iPhone and Mac app. The Mac app runs on any Mac with macOS 26.

Capture

Kept put my capture in the wrong place. Open the item and change its kind, area, or date. Your correction is the record. Next time, lock the kind before you add it: tap the kind on iPhone, or press ⌥1, ⌥2, or ⌥3 on Mac.

Why did my task arrive with no due date? Because your words did not name one. Kept never invents a date or a priority. Say "Friday" and you get Friday.

Does Kept send what I type to a model? Only when you have allowed Cloud AI, and only the capture line with the context needed to file it. Turn Cloud AI off in Settings and capture stays on the device. See Cloud AI, explained.

Option Space does not open Capture on my Mac. Another app probably owns that chord. Change Kept's hotkey in Settings → Capture, or change the other app's.

Today and Tasks

Why does Today show fewer than three tasks? A task leads your day only when something on it says so: a due date, a reminder, a goal link, critical priority, or your own words. Give a task one of those and it qualifies.

Why is a high-priority task not in my Top 3? High priority on its own does not seat a task, because Kept may have inferred the priority. Critical does. So does a due date.

A task I do not want to see keeps coming back. Open Modify plan from the Top 3 header and choose Not today for it, or open the task and use the moon in its bottom bar. Do it twice in a week and it stays out for seven days. Or give it the due date you actually mean.

Where did my completed tasks go? On iPhone, open Kept today at the bottom of Tasks. Everything you finished today is there, with Reopen.

Notes

Where are my old daily notes? In Daily Notes, so a year of journal entries never buries your other writing. All notes shows today's daily note plus everything else.

A note I know I wrote is not in the list. If it is a daily note with nothing in it, Kept hides it. Search finds words inside notes; try a phrase you remember.

Can I share a note? Yes, two ways, both from Share at the top of the note. On the Share tab, where editing together is on for your account, invite people by email to edit it with you, live. On the Publish tab, put it on the web as a page with a link you can copy, change, or revoke later; search engines are kept out unless you switch that on. See Share a note.

Can people edit a note with me at the same time? Yes, on iPhone and Mac, where editing together is on for your account; it is arriving gradually, and until then the share sheet shows Publish and Export only. Everyone sees the others' cursors with their first names, and both people's words survive when you type in the same place. A note holds up to 100 people. See Edit a note together.

Someone invited me to a note. How do I open it? Tap Open the note in the invitation email. If you already use Kept, the invitation is also at the top of Notes. If you are new, get Kept for iPhone or Mac and make a free account with the address the invitation went to, and Kept offers to open the note. An invitation works once and expires after 14 days; if yours stopped working, ask the person who sent it for a new one. Shared notes need Kept 1.9.2 or later, and there is no web editor for them yet.

Someone sent me a note link. How do I open it in Kept? Open the link, then choose Open in Kept or Edit in Kept. After you sign in, Kept opens the note with the access that link allows and keeps it under Shared with me, separate from notes you own. If the link was revoked, ask the owner to share it again.

Can I share a task? Not yet. What you can share today is a checklist: checkboxes inside a shared note belong to everyone in it, and anyone can add, change, or tick them. They do not become tasks in anyone's Tasks or Today. Sharing a task itself is not in Kept yet.

Are the pages inside a note shared too? No. Sharing a note shares that note only. People in it see each page's card as Not shared with you, and the pages stay yours. A row's page in a table works the same way: sharing the table never shares the page, and someone without access sees Page content isn't shared with you.

Why can't I share my daily note? A daily note holds your own day: your Top 3, what Kept files for you, and your plan. It stays yours. You can still publish or export it.

What happens to my words if I leave a shared note? They stay in the note. Leaving, or being removed, ends your access to the note; the owner keeps the note with everyone's edits in it.

Tables

Can I track things with properties and views, the way Notion does? To a point. A table in a note has eight property types (Title, Text, Number, Select, Multi-select, Date, Checkbox, Link), Table, List, and Board views, filters, sorts, grouping, and rows that open as pages. It has no formulas, relations, or rollups. See Tables.

How many rows can a table have? Up to 1,000, with up to 12 properties and 8 saved views, as long as the whole note stays within 1 MiB. Kept refuses a change that would pass a limit, as a whole, and keeps what you typed. See Limits.

Why can't I drag a row to reorder it? The view is sorted. Sorting only changes what you see, so Kept says Clear sorts to reorder rows. Clear the sorts and your own order is exactly as you left it.

Why won't a property change type?

A saved view's filter or grouping would no longer make sense for the new type. Kept shows the reason and leaves the property alone. Edit that view first, then change the type. Changing Text to Link keeps an existing link only when the text you see and its destination are the same. If they differ, Kept says the change would lose a destination and leaves the property alone. I deleted a row and undid it. Is the whole row back?

Yes. Undo brings the whole row back, including details Kept does not display yet, and reattaches its page unless you have moved that page since. See Open a row as a page.

I undid several edits at once.

Undo of a batch of edits restores them all, unless someone else changed the same thing since. Then Kept leaves it as it is. See Offline, conflicts, and Review changes.

Two of us changed the same cell. Which one wins? The first value to reach your account stays, and the other waits as a draft. Choose Review changes, then Use this device to keep yours or Use saved value to keep what is there. Different cells never conflict. See Offline, conflicts, and Review changes.

A table says Update Kept to edit this table. The table was made with something newer than your app understands. You can read it, and nothing in it is lost. Update Kept to edit it. Older versions of Kept also read a table with properties as text.

Habits and goals

Why is my new habit not marked late? Because it is new. A habit you just made is never already late, and an evening habit belongs to the evening.

Kept did not link my task to my goal. It never does that on its own, even when the task and the goal share a life area. Open the task or the goal and link it deliberately.

Where are goals on iPhone? In your Profile: tap your avatar, then your name. On Mac, Goals is a sidebar destination.

Sync

My Mac shows something my iPhone does not. Give it a moment, then leave the app and come back. If the sync status shows Retry or Review, read Sync, offline, and pending changes.

I signed out and it warned me about pending changes. Wait for changes still sending. Refused writes and retained drafts need review; waiting alone does not resolve them. Review or Cancel preserves recovery. Explicit discard can partially finish before a journal fails; Kept stays signed in, and work already discarded cannot be restored by Cancel. See Your account.

Does a recovered draft mean it synced? No. A recovery receipt covers the captured revision on this device. Delivery is separate. Earlier chosen writing and original typed pages can remain for review; loading the latest version does not discard unresolved drafts. Undo returns a choice to review. Privacy

What does Kept know about my health? Only what you allowed in Apple Health, summarized by day, read on your iPhone. Nothing goes to a model. See Apple Health and Kept.

Can a connected AI delete my data? No. There are no delete tools over MCP. Forget and archive are reversible, and anything that would email another person asks you first.

Who can see a note I share? Everyone in it sees the note (pages inside it are not shared; they show as "Not shared with you"), each other's first names, who is in the note right now and on which kind of device, and where each person's cursor is. Only you, as the owner, see the email addresses you invited. A note someone shares with you is never added to your assistant, your search, or your daily plan.

Can I stop note invitation emails? Yes. Every invitation has a link at the bottom to stop note invitations from Kept. It does not affect notes you have already joined.

How do I delete everything? Settings → Delete account. It removes everything personal from the server and every device and cannot be undone. See Your account.

Availability

Something is broken. What do I do? Shake your iPhone, choose Report a bug at the bottom of the menu on iPhone or the foot of the sidebar on Mac, or open Settings → Help & feedback → Report a problem on either device. Say what you expected and what happened. See Report a bug.

A feature this guide describes is not in my app. Some features arrive gradually across accounts. The guide marks those. If the guide says nothing about a switch and you still do not see it, that is a report worth sending.
